Everyone looks good in red lipstick. Seriously. It’s just simple maths. That little slither of colour transforms the face in a way nothing else can and I don’t mean that pouty thing that seems to happen to lips when drenched in red. 

 

The only thing really, that’s still up for debate is which shade of red to side with. The spring/summer 2013 shows clearly couldn’t find one to agree on; we saw raspberry ripple reds at Rochas, neon pinky-reds at Richard Nicoll and glorious satsuma reds at Prada. And so, in order to navigate our way through a season of subtly nuanced red tones, we’ve had to name them, like they’re our own children. Which, for spring at least, they sort of are.
