It’s a bag. That looks like a perfume. Ergo it's magnificent.
Aside from the immaculate clothes that are paraded down catwalks season after season is the array of beautiful accessories that complete each outfit – cue that Betty Draper-esque Prada bag from last season and Burberry’s silver spiked cuff that could cause some serious damage. So the recent trend for handbags shaped like perfume flacons, as reported by style.com, brings with it a certain amount of wit and, some might say, an element of the absurd (and they’d be crazy to say that) to the accessory genre. And how refreshing to find a bag worth hyperventilating over which doesn’t have the numbers 2,5 and 5 in its title.
Viktor & Rolf Flowerbomb, £65 at Selfridges
There have been a few of these light-hearted, utterly adorable designs in recent months. Bravo Lanvin for your black miniature, based on the Arpège fragrance to mark the 85th anniversary of the scent, and ten out of ten to you Viktor & Rolf for the Flowerbomb creation in your autumn/winter 2013 show. But the most beautifully, covetable interpretation is from Sir Karl for the Chanel No.5 fabulousness that model Sara Blomqvist held as she walked in the Chanel Cruise 2014 show in Singapore on Friday. All of which is yet further proof that Karl has a riotous sense of humour, behind all that restrictive monochrome. Told you.
