Fancy footwork: the rise of the hi-tech pedicure
Pedi’s are going properly hi-tech. And about time too.
Poor old feet, they really do play second fiddle to every other body part in the grand scheme of things. Yes they get the occasional reflexology session or pre-holiday once over with a coat or two of OPI’s Cajun Shrimp, but never do they get the lymph-drainage, micro-polish and peel love that the face does, for instance.
Luckily, for the forgotten duo that spend their life on the floors and pound the pavements, things are about to change. In a very, very good way. Pedicures are going hi-tech, so hi-tech that they are giving some top end facials a run for their money.
Most notably is Debbie Thomas’ new Luxury Pedicure, £59, which, just like her legendary bespoke facials that require months in advance to book, this pedicure gives feet a really in-depth and thorough seeing-to. Which most feet need at this time of year having been in hibernation all winter inside a pair of Church’s Chelsea boots.
It’s indulgence at its best, with pressure-point massage, micro-exfoliation and even a glycolic micro peel (which makes fast work of hard skin) to brighten sallow, jaundice-looking things that need to step into new Celine leopard espadrilles in style.
Also providing a pre-summer saviour for feet is the Sole Food Pedicure, £50, at the hidden away Beauty Works West in Notting Hill. Like the name suggests, it’s a serious dose of soul food. Or food for the soles, if you will.
Think hot paraffin wax bags for each foot, warmed healing stones and all kinds of wonderful things that are normally saved for the face or body.
Hot new nail destination Sophie Gass has something to offer too. Before you’ve even set foot in the chair you’ll be soothed into pure luxury by the Farrow and Ball painted walls, iPads aplenty and champagne on tap. And this place just does nails, so hands and feet get the full works.
The Luxury Pedicure, £32, on offer incorporates much more than just a polish and half-hearted massage. It’s a 40 minute long slice of heaven via acupressure massage, proper salt scrub exfoliation where every last dead skin cell is removed and cuticles are tended to in a proper manner. And that’s not to mention the ridiculous amount of Essie shades on offer…
Rejoice, feet. Your time has come.
