Lashes are my jam. I just love them. They’re the thing I look at first on other people’s faces and what I like best about my own. Mine are coated each morning in varying shades of black, bar the occasional appearance of turquoise in the summer.  In fact, YSL Faux Cils Waterproof Mascara in Marjorelle Blue, £23.50, has seen more of Ibiza over the years than I have.

 

Applying the colour was tricky but after four generous applications I was left with very yellow, very full lashes. The reaction from the Never Underdressed team ran the gamut from, ‘it looks a bit like pollen’, ‘you look like a fairy’ and ‘what is that? I want to buy it’, but I just couldn’t quite get to grips with it.

Whereas normally my morning slick of mascara makes me feel awake and ready to face the world, my yellow lashes made me feel a bit… silly. Although they did create a rather nice hazy yellow border around my eyes, which made everything look happier for a few hours.  It’s a cool colour and clever idea (trust Peter Philips) but one better suited to mascara chameleons braver than I.
