Male scents can work for women too, you know
Matchesfashion.com buying manager, Suzanne Pendlebury, tells us why she's hooked on male scents and Diptyque's fig candles
My scent is actually a man’s scent, it’s Eau de L'Occitane. I bought it for myself on a trip to Paris about a month ago. I am generally drawn more towards masculine scents over anything too girly and traditional. I like crisp, fresh smells or warm rich, woody ones rather than sweet or floral things. Things like freshly cut grass and clean linen or even the smell of the ocean really get me.
I have 3 perfumes that are always on my dressing table: L’Artisan Parfumer Timbuktu, Frederic Malle Musc Ravageur and Jo Malone Cologne 154. They are all quite masculine with either woody or spicy notes which are also fresh at the same time. Those are the kind of fragrances I always lean towards.

I suppose I am slowly building up quite a fragrance wardrobe, alongside my clothes wardrobe, as I come across more and more scents that I really love. I usually save the muskier ones for evenings, keeping the fresh, clean ones for daytime wearing.
I like burning scented candles because they create a real mood. Diptyque’s fig candle is by far my favourite. It reminds me of being outdoors or on holiday because it’s got that slightly warm smell to it. We actually use lots of Diptyque candles at the Matches townhouse in Marylebone where we host fashion events and invite our private clients to come and shop. They really help to create a mood within the intimate spaces.
