More than half a million pounds' worth of jewellery has been taken from a hotel room in Cannes, it was reported today.

The pieces, which were to be loaned to A-listers attending events during the festival, were apparently taken from a safe in the hotel room of a Chopard employee, where they were supposed be held for safe-keeping.

The Swiss jewellers have not declared which pieces are missing yet.
