Great excitement. Levi's reissue the golden oldies
They’re as familiar to you as Heinz Baked Beans, Andy Warhol’s Campbell’s soup tin or a little brown Marmite pot – the tell-tale red tab on a pair of Levi’s jeans is a bit of branding as much a part of our psyche as, well, jeans are.
That’s why it’s exciting news that the label is turning the spotlight back on some of its most recognisable and idiosyncratic pieces this season, having riffled through their archives and given them a modern spin.
Teenage hipsters (and our designer Daisy plus news editor Harriet) may well be wearing originals from the first time round, but just try a test-drive of the 2013 re-release of the iconic cut: streamlined in the leg, with stud detailing and an authentic worn-in feel.
Also of note in the collection, refreshed and revitalised for autumn, is the classic Western shirt – now available in a range of warm and earthy feminine tones that don’t detract from its practical and hardwearing workwear roots but give it slightly more scope in your everyday wardrobe. And for a more directional take, the denim trucker jacket is reimagined in a new cropped style with kimono-inspired sleeves, mixing fashionable Orient stylings with street cool.
You’ve heard the saying ‘if ain’t broke, don’t fix it’. Well, Levi’s have just tightened the screws a bit this season, that’s all.
