Lily McMenamy on i-D cover: another teen follows her mum into modelling

by

Meet the latest supermodel progeny to hit the newsstands: 19-year-old Lily Mcmenamy, who this month appears on the cover of i-D magazine

Winking and snarling, she apes her mother Kristen’s pose for a 1993 cover of the same magazine.

Lo and behold, it turns out genetics is pretty reliable because there are striking similarities between the two: pneumatic lips, pale skin and odd bewitching beauty.

And like her mother, McMenamy jr is developing into a model that can be relied on for more than just walking and smiling. This girl can bring the drama, as evidenced when she appeared in just a pair of pants at the Marc Jacobs autumn 13 show.

In the accompanying i-D interview, we learn that McMenamy, whose father is Tunisian club owner Hubert Boukobza, was brought up in London by her mother and stepfather, the photographer Miles Aldridge (who has since separated from Kristen).

Before she moved to Paris to begin her modelling career (she made her debut at Saint Laurent spring 13), she was a regular London schoolgirl. She attended Parliament Hill in North London, which, in a rebuke to its ‘outstanding’ Ofsted status, she describes as ‘like super ghetto, not the worst but … there were lots of fights, girls used to throw flour on girls.’ From there, she went on to the Camden School for Girls, where she was ‘the weirdo’ and often ‘bunked off’.

Luckily for her though, she didn’t need to pay attention to boring school lessons because soon, as she explains in a video on the i-D site, she was getting ‘modelling lessons from Debra Shaw, she’s like this amazing Amazonian woman’. And it’s paid off – because this girl looks set to be as big a fashion star as her mum.
