She's a grrrrown-up now: Cara gets a lion tattoo

by

At 8.30 this morning, fashion editor Katie Grand tweeted: 'OUCH @caradelevingne congratulations on your first tattoo. Roar like a ninja.'

Mixed metaphors aside, this is clearly big news. Models with tattoos are ten a penny, but most of them find discreet and non-objectionable parts of themselves to decorate, for fear of losing work over a squiggle here, a Japanese zen symbol there. Hence the increasing trend among civilians too for ink on, say, the side of the your hand that no-one will see, the inside of your wrist, behind your ear, way down in your neck crease.

But Cara? No. She's gone for a whacking great lion on her index finger. Fair play to her - it's one more animal for her onesie menagerie, one more cartoonish face to add to every pap shot. One more reason for The Daily Mail to assume she's gone off the rails and is whizzing headlong into nervous breakdown-cray-bedlam territory.

But that's beside the point. We want to discuss the aesthetics of it: this is no Tony the Tiger, Disney version. This is pure artistry, in the manner of a Justin Bieber tattoo - all cross-hatching and shading.

It's the tattoo equivalent of an ambient wolf T-shirt. And we presume that's exactly what Cara had in mind.
