Galliano interviewed for Vanity Fair - we imagine how it might go

by

Vanity Fair‘s July issue will feature an interview with disgraced design genius John Galliano. Ingrid Sischy, who will be conducting the interview, has talked to Galliano before, mainly about his work. This time there will have to be more focus on his personal life and demons. We imagine what Vanity Fair will ask and what Galliano will have to say.

Vanity Fair: Why did you do it John?
Galliano: Because I was going through a troubled time. And I decided that instead of dealing with my problems in a calm, ordered and slow, painful and revealing way, to get obliterated on valium and drink and say the most loathsome things I could think of. By creating such a caricature of a bad person, I was pushing everybody, and therefore my troubles, away.
Is this actually likely? Galliano was ordered to attend rehab so should have spent hours and hours analysing what led to his vile outburst. This reason is a guess but I hope he has looked hard at himself to figure out what caused his mistake.

Vanity Fair: Are you an anti-semite?
Galliano: No.
Is this actually likely? Yes. Galliano has said previously that: ‘In all my work my inspiration has been to unite people of every race, creed, religion and sexuality by celebrating their cultural and ethnic diversity through fashion. That remains my guiding light. Anti-semitism and racism have no part in our society.’  We expect him to reinforce that in the VF piece.

Vanity Fair: Are you going to design again?
Galliano: Yes. I would like to announce my plans here and now. I will be returning to the London Fashion Week schedule with my own completely new label, John, in September, creating couture-like pieces for a ready-to-wear collection that will embrace my home city and the city where I trained as a designer. I’m back.
Is this likely? Well... It’s hard to see a big design house taking a punt on Galliano given the complicated scrutiny that would accompany him but we really, really want his vision and genius back so this would be a compromise, eh? But we hope he doesn’t call it John.
