Is drinking in shops a thing? Where fashion and fizz combine...
Soon you’ll be able to buy beer and food in Urban Outfitters as well as clothing and homeware as the new Williamsburg outpost of the phenomenally popular chain has applied for a liquor licence.
It makes perfect sense: Urban Outfitters is selling 20-something college kids and young professionals a lifestyle, and food and drink (think locally sourced pork belly and craft beers) have become as important in the hipster way of life as beards and brogues.
Of course, at designer concept stores, the sublime marriage of gourmandism and gowns has long been a reality... We’re not talking about grabbing a scone with your granny in a department store cafe after stockpiling on tights and vests here; oh no, we’re more interested in the international hangouts where after browsing the Céline and the Jil Sander, you can kick back with a cocktail or order some oeufs en cocotte.
