Rita Hayworth did high/low dressing before it was a thing

by

Nicknamed the 'love goddess', 40s actress Rita Hayworth is, unsurprisingly, many people's ultimate pin-up girl. With her dyed red, waved hair, Jessica Rabbit curves and those elbow-length gloves she peeled off so enticingly in Gilda, she represented an other-worldly glamour - the sort we rarely see anymore in the pages of glossy magazines.

From the satin bustier dresses to gowns of glittering sequins and satins Rita's onscreen look was all about Tinseltown pizzazz. Her personal aesthetic, however, couldn't be further from it. Featuring New Look jackets, high-waisted slacks and flat shoes the screen siren seemed to take a certain pleasure in shattering the mystique from her films.
