Fran Cutler at 50: parties, Savile and surviving

by

Party promoter and Primrose Hill set queen bee Fran Cutler has told today's Sunday Times that she was ‘minorly groped’ by Jimmy Savile as a teenager.

Explaining how she encountered the disgraced TV presenter at an exclusive health spa she worked at after leaving school, she said: ‘We had to do massages, and he used to come down all the time. I didn’t get thoroughly groped – minorly groped, with the suggestion of more, probably.’ Cutler, who turned 50 last month and grew up in Islington, north London, continues, ‘But I was from London, I was really streetwise, so I was like ‘P*ss off you dirty old git.’’

She also credits her solid upbringing with protecting her from the downsides of excess and partying that led to some of her friends – Meg Matthews and Kate Moss, for example (she is pictured with the pair above) – turning to rehab for periods, saying that she only lives ‘streets away from where she was brought up’.

Cutler has been in the press a lot recently after pictures of her 50th birthday with a starry guestlist trussed up in finest fancy dress appeared on websites around the world. The woman who in the 1990s had the starriest rolodex in the industry – Oasis, Kate Moss, John Galliano, Sadie Frost – threw a party for that old set but also invited the new London posse of Cara and Rita, Grimmy and her new BFF Harry Styles.

Still a hugely successful party planner, she has a few ground rules for throwing a good party: play songs people know, don’t run out of booze and no chat please. ‘What can you talk about in a club,’ she reasons, ‘unless you’re chatting someone up. The whole point is to get on the dancefloor.’
