The cool crowd branches out, goes to live in treehouses
Hipsters are getting in touch with their long lost five year-old selves by erecting teepees draped in fairy lights in their exposed brickwork, urbanite hideaways. Even better, there’s a trend for them vacationing in the treetops, like Ewoks dressed in vintage. At least their plaid shirts will feel right at home.
It’s all a bit Enid Blyton really.
The first treehouse hotel opened in the mid-80s, in Brazil. But now, compared to the boutique newbies, it looks like a tired, sprawling, Travelodge-esque effort.
Not only can you kip atop a canopy close to the stars; now you can attend a four-day workshop in Seattle, that will teach you to branch out (dad joke klaxon) and assemble a fairytale tower in your very own garden.
Ahhh, the nostalgia. But also: the cold, the creaking and the smell of insects and sap as they get all over your retro-futuristic designer camping gear.
