There’s a lot to admire about New York’s style doyenne Iris Apfel, not least her ability to take maximalism to the max, or a fifty-year career in the textiles industry in which she helped deck out The White House, but also the sage pearls of wisdom and hilarious asides she’s been known to throw about in interviews.

The latest of which took place at London Zoo with The Nowness’ Duru Olowu, where of one camel, she noted ‘he’s snooty, look at his nose in the air – maybe he’s an aristocrat’, as well as commenting, ‘animals I think are much better than people. I think they’re more honest – you know if they like you or if they don’t like you’. Just keep her away from the reptile house, she ‘only like[s] snake jewellery’.
