Victoria Beckham surprised her Instagram followers this week when she posted a picture of a lonely bicycle wheel, the rest of the bike clearly stolen, with the line: 'So I won't be riding home tonight then! x vb'.

The news is a revelation more surprising than when she smiled or confounded the fashion press with a celebrity clothing line that is actually quite, quite good. I mean, Victoria Beckham cycles? It just makes no sense: does she wear flats; what about helmet hair; and where does baby Harper sit?

Although she is currently sans bike (all cyclists will recognise the shock/hurt/anger that she surely must have felt upon returning to find her bicycle stolen) she tweeted a picture of an NYPD vehicle, which was on the lookout for her missing bike, indicating that she's not about to give up on cycling that easily. And let's face it, even if the police don't recover her bike (again, all cyclists will recognise the resignation/sense of defeat attached to knowing you'll probably never see your bike again) she can quite easily afford a new one.
