What the Frock: Valentino Garavani

The reason I will accept this look is that his pants fit nicely. If let's say they were 'just' the right length, and too slim-fit, then it would be a big fail. However, i'm concerned by the après-ski layer over his beautiful tailored jacket. Howzat? This is a look more befitting a posh ski resort, yet his left wrist is pretty pimped out; he doesn't look like the type to frequent one of those dodgy Canal Street jewellers in New York with the fast-slam security shutters, although he does look like he's going to lunch down one of those posh side streets at the back of Claridges.

When he isn't crafting the most perfect gowns for Hollywood and fashion royalty, it's nice to know that Valentino does regular stuff too, like going to the polo, just like us. And that he manages to do so looking effortlessly chic at all times, just like us. Whether its the insouciant tonal range in this look or the coiffed hair, there's something about this man we just love and somehow burst out with 'Oh hi darlings!' every time we see him.
Karen Dacre, fashion editor at the Evening Standard
Hello Gangsta Grandad! This look is a combination of two oh-so-different worlds. On one hand there's the padded gilet, the neat blue collared shirt, the perfectly knotted tie: a combination pensioners in small Scottish towns honourably sport to collect their milk and papers – or 'messages' as we call them north of the border. And on the other? A swathe of Italian cashmere and a totally blinging bracelet. It's only rock and err, old but Mr Valentino likes it.
