Issa founder leaves the label

by

Daniella Helayel, founder and creative director of Issa London, the label famous for dressing Kate Middleton for her engagement announcement, is to leave the label she set up in  2001.

Helayel's departure comes on the back of rumours that she was unhappy in the role, after Camilla al-Fayed, daughter of Harrods owner Mohammed, bought a majority stake in the company in 2011. That move was supposed to enable growth after the deluge of interest in the label that followed Middleton's patronage, which al-Fayed later admitted in an interview had been 'too much' and that business had not been able to cope with the influx of orders.

Issa is set to launch a collaborative range with Banana Republic this summer, which Helayel will fulfill. She will be replaced by Blue Farrier, who has worked alongside Phoebe Philo at Chloé, and at Stella MCCartney and Sandro, as creative director.
