Light optimism at Issey Miyake for spring 2014
Yoshiyuki Miyamae's vision at Issey Miyake is no less progressive than that of its founder. Happily though (quite literally) he also works with that same sense of fun and optimism. In his hands, technofabrics are not the stuff of serious chin-stroking, rather they make for clothes as simple and unencumbering as science will allow.
His inspiration was light for spring 2014, which showed through in flat-cut wrapped leather skirts gathered in obi belts, punched with tiny holes to let skin show through like tiny sunbeams.
White cotton blouses were pleated around the body, and the classic tile knit reworked on shorts and cropped trousers. Darts in the sides of blazers were shaped in chevrons to lift and lighten the structure. Then bright and pale hues of red, blue and yellow were worn under sheer white shifts, so their tones shimmered as the models walked - Miyake fans will no doubt be as happy about it as Miyamae was.
