Why are we endlessly fascinated with airport style?
In the new Bridget Jones novel Mad About the Boy, out Thursday, everybody's favourite hapless singleton makes a style resolution that is sure to resonate with many.
Bridget vows to 'not wear same three things all the time, but instead go through wardrobe and put together fashionable 'looks' based on celebrities at airports'. Ah yes, the celebrity-at-the-airport fixation... There is something so much more fascinating about a celebrity at an airport than a celebrity on the red carpet.
On a red carpet you know the celebrity in question has more than likely been professionally styled, they've had hair and make-up done, they've had somebody do up their zip and order in jewels. When celebrities are schlepping around Los Angeles, they tend to dress terribly, in trainers (not even the fashionable kind) and sweatpants as they constantly work out and drink juices. But at the airport, that's where they really come into their own. Celebrities-at-the-airport shots offer a real insight into celebrities' looks and tastes. Far from Instagram or the red-carpet camera, they pile up the accessories, sunglasses, hats and serious handbags. They relax a little and guess what? They tend to look really, really good.
