Miu Miu rips up the rule book, again

'She must think we're in for a terrible summer,' said my neighbour during the Miu Miu show as coat after beautiful Princess line coat came down the catwalk for spring. Miuccia had already said it at Prada two weeks earlier where the focus was on outerwear, and she's said it many times before that. Seasons begone. Rules are there to be broken.

So Miu Miu's edict for spring is coats certainly, but more than that, it conjured a tale of Stepford Wives on Prozac where sugary candy colours were thrown off with clashing combinations and sagging tights.

The set was papered with four designs: pussy cats and flowers, a jumping Goldfish, a 1920s lady's face combined with a bird and a spriggy floral. These 1970s-esque prints were used in typically iconic Miu Miu style on coats, boots and dresses. Immediately raising its hand as contender for most shot/worn item of next season is surely the cat print, on boots, coats, take your pick.

The lady's face print was embroidered on coats in a diluted, softer version than was seen at Prada. This has always been a house in which its strategies are aligned.

Loudly declaring her love for it all on the front row was Lena Dunham, a personality who neatly encapsulates Miu Miu's heartland; the young, daring and very much in demand.
