LVMH showing JW Anderson some love (and money?)

The fashion industry is alive with buzz this morning as rumours swirl that luxury conglomerate LVMH is eyeing up London designer JW Anderson.

Trade paper Women’s Wear Daily reports that ‘according to sources, luxury giant LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton has held talks with the hot London designer about investing in his fledgling business’.

Spokespeople for both LVMH – which owns Louis Vuitton, Givenchy and Céline – and JW Anderson declined to comment, but interest from LVMH is not unheralded. Earlier this year, the conglomerate invested in the young French designer Maxime Simeons, and WWD says ‘that move suggested the French luxury giant wishes to forge ties with promising designers who might one day take on its bigger brands’.

JW Anderson, originally from Northern Ireland and known for his androgynous designs, has been making inroads into the more commercial aspects of fashion recently, collaborating with Topshop on a series of collections, working with Donatella Versace at Versus  (Anderson replaced previous Versace protégé Christopher Kane after he had to give up the Versus gig after Kering purchased a stake in his company) and launching his first-ever ad campaign this autumn.
