François Nars swaps lipsticks for landscapes

by

Well hasn’t François Nars been a busy man. Mostly tied up working on the epic Guy Bourdin collaboration but also perfecting the pages of his great new book, titled Faery Lands, Tahiti. Yes, a master make-up artist AND a great photographer. Sigh. What’s interesting to note about the book is that it is entirely based on Bora Bora, the place where Nars bought his very own island, Motu Tané ten years ago (yes, a whole island). Since then, he’s been capturing the landscape, culture and people from the island and bound it up into one, weighty beautiful book (coffee tables, listen up).

Be prepared for the complete opposite to the vibrant and acid colour images we’ve come to love in Nars campaigns gone by; these photographs ware richly sepia-toned and there’s not a mascara in sight. François has eschewed the digital format in favour of a large format film camera and honestly, the results are utterly dreamy.

Put lipsticks to the back of your mind for a moment and appreciate François’s visionary pictures in the gallery above.
