Watch Lena Dunham be hilarious, Vogue-style

by

After a week of predictable debate over Lena Dunham's first cover appearance on US Vogue, the glossy has taken the last word with a surprisingly hilarious short film (scroll down to watch it). The video, entitled Cover Girl, shows Dunham in a pre-cover shoot panic, wondering how to pose. After trying a few Hannah Horvath-esque poses in the mirror (hello, finger guns), she summons international editor-at-large Hamish Bowles, who arrives impeccably dressed for a very funny posing tutorial, taking inspiration from all Vogue's previous models.

It's been rumoured for many, many months that Anna Wintour was considering Dunham for the cover of the magazine, so clearly the staff have had plenty of time to plan the best way to handle it. As it happens, this has turned out to be not so much giving Dunham the Vogue treatment, as the waiting commentators expected, but giving Vogue the Dunham treatment – not only have they let her be herself, but they've taken full advantage of her comic skills.

It also transpires that within their ranks, they had a star waiting to be discovered in Hamish Bowles. New catchphrase of the year, everybody: 'Shalom! Shalom it out!'
