New face April and the cheery papaya lip
The model faces of tomorrow meet the beauty trends of today, here, every week.
On days like today, spring/summer 2013’s coral lip trend seems like an all-round winner. It couldn’t be better matched than to bright, sunny days when that warm glow and dazzling outdoor light make everything happy.
The difference with this season though is that the colour has gone more fruity, more papaya. Less red-based than seasons gone by and more rich and orange-y, it peaked at Vivienne Westwood’s show. Not forgetting the chic, smudged version at Erdem as well. Honestly, it’s a lip shade that totally comes into its prime during hot spells like this and it works on everyone, no matter what your skin tone.
Surprisingly, there haven’t been that many spot-on shades, weird as that might seem. Plenty of grapefruit juice and sweet potato colours, but finding a true coral/papaya proved very, very hard. After some serious lipstick scouting and multiple trying on sessions, I managed to find the dream shade; the ultimate summer bullet. A brilliantly, shiny colour from Givenchy that goes on smoothly, it actually stains lips a little and last for hours and hours, even after numerous slurps of Pimm’s and Solero eating.
When new face model, April – who recently caused a stir at Berlin Fashion Week – came into the office, we asked her to try out a pop of colour and pretty much nothing else. The results packed quite a punch, as you can see from the photos. Sunny rays poured through the office window and April moved around, smiling and giving it her all with the lipstick. So it’s safe to say that that’s the case closed for the quest to find the ideal summer lip shade. Thank god.
