It's crazy to think that a year ago, the name Lupita Nyong'o was a total mystery to us all. Now, post-Golden Globes and post-Oscars, Lupita Nyong'o is the name on everyone's lips. 

And so, it was only a matter of time before one of the big beauty giants snapped her up as an ambassador. The honour of which goes to Lancôme which announced today that Lupita Nyong'o joins Julia Roberts and Lily Collins as a face of the brand. You can imagine the bidding war that would have taken place behind the scenes. Because in beauty terms, Lupita is exactly what the world needs right now; a strong, talented woman and, poignantly, a woman of colour, in an industry which all too often marginalises ethnicity as a minority. She's not just a pretty face though, Lupita has spoken out about the torment she felt at the colour of her skin as a child, and in doing so has inspired women all over the world to own their own beauty, regardless of their heritage. 

She's fun too, though (as evidenced by a bit of impromptu dancing with Pharrell). And in just a few short months, she's assuaged a fine line in make-up successes. Crucially, she's not one to shy away from colour. I suspect that over the coming years, Lupita will teach us many things about beauty, but the joy and vigour that can come from wearing bold colour, may be the most profound.
