A new pair of glasses for less than £100
Staff writer Lynn Enright on her Bailey Nelson glasses
This is my first day wearing my new glasses, which I picked up from Bailey Nelson – a shop that isn't an opticians but a purveyor of lovely, quite trendy, very well-made frames – yesterday. Get your eye test done elsewhere, pick out a pair of frames at a Bailey Nelson shop in Covent Garden or Clerkenwell or Putney (I went for 'Mollie' in a light tortoiseshell), show them your prescription, wait a couple of days and then go and collect your new glasses. It's that easy. And it's cheap: every pair of glasses from Bailey Nelson costs £98, unless you need specialist lenses, which is a pretty bargain price for a pair of glasses this sturdy. Of course, if you're not in London, you needn't call into the shops; you can do the whole thing online, sending them a photo of your prescription.
