New face Anna, the (midnight) blue-eyed beauty

The model faces of tomorrow meet the beauty trends of today, here, every week

I know we’re all a bit afraid of change, but sometimes it’s a good thing. Or at least this season, it’s been a good thing. You see, that classic smoky eye look has been doing the rounds for way too long. About ten seasons in a row now, and it’s time for an update. So the arrival of the midnight/navy version across a whole host of autumn/winter 2013 shows filled beauty editors with huge content. My favourite came in the form of a ghostly blue shade seen at Gareth Pugh, which was moody yet slightly ethereal too. And not forgetting the vision that Diane Kendal cooked up in New York at Thakoon – more of a royal blue shade, she overlaid it with a smattering of bronze glitter. Divine.

Taking a leaf out of the ghoul-like army of models at Gareth Pugh, we wanted to try our new found love for the midnight eye on a pale-skinned beauty to achieve maximum impact. This came in the form of Anna, a beauty of a thing on the books at Storm who made eyes at the camera akin to Kate Moss. Must be all that practice; she spoke of a recent shoot for Wonderland magazine involving rail loads of Dior, extrovert make-up and a set so full of cacti she thought she was in the Nevada Desert.

Stepping up to the mark was Aerin New York City Colour Palette. Like with all of Aerin’s designs, this is the kind of delight that should slip into every girl’s make-up bag, so flattering and wearable is it. Blending both blues together on Anna’s eyelids, the paler blue made for a soft base colour while the darker shade went on top to give more edge. And boy did it look edgy.

So here it is, sort of like a classic smoky eye but different and way more modern. We think it’s very 2013; follow suit quickly.
