New face Ray has a flutter with this season’s amber eye trend
The model faces of tomorrow meet the beauty trends of today, here, every week.
Orange. Let’s be honest – it’s not the easiest colour to slot into your make-up bag. Truth be told, it’s not always the most flattering. On eyes, that is. Lips or blush easy-peasy, but an orange shadow is much harder to get right.
In true nonconformist style, the spring/summer 2013 catwalks went mad for the colour and there were some really quite surprising outcomes: bright orange accents at Peter Som, burnt ochre shadow at Vera Wang and the culmination of the trend at Louis Vuitton – arguably the best – where Cara Delevingne was photographed backstage looking nothing short of beautiful in a summery, apricot shade that was both flattering and fresh. Yes, that’s right… the dodgy 80s orange you’ve so often laughed at has been given a very modern and much more wearable update. And about time too.
By way of wanting to recreate Cara’s youthful Vuitton look, there seemed no one better to road-test it than Ray, the latest signing to Select Models. She had something of that nonchalant Cara vibe about her and those striking hazel-green eyes were just asking for it.
Rather unfairly, Ray needed little done to her face make-up wise, so all there was to do was get to grips with the orange shadow. Said shade was to be found in Illamasqua’s new Paranormal Palette, £34. Chosen for its bold and bright colour, its perfect for this time of year (weather permitting) and had a bonus silky texture too. Neither a cream, nor a powder, it’s water-resistant and very long-lasting and gave dam good results.
Look and learn. And for goodness sake give this chic orange trend a whirl. It’s terrific.
