Karlie Kloss is too famous for the catwalk
Here's a #firstworldproblem if you ever heard one: modern-Super Karlie Kloss, she of a million magazine covers and campaigns fame, is starting to be turned down for catwalk gigs, for exactly that reason - she's too famous.
In a recent interview with Vanity Fair, the just-turned-21 American export confessed that she is constantly told ‘You are too famous', when being turned down after castings, with interview companion Joan Smalls adding, 'you are just too big'. Designers want all eyes on their wares, rather than the girl with the wiggle who's wearing them, i seems.
Indeed, with platforms such as Instagram on the rise, models like Kloss, who has over 300,000 followers, are able to build up a huge public profile in their own right, one perhaps, that can end up bigger than the brands they walk for. Cara Delevingne and her more than 2 million followers are testament to that.
With a jeans line about to launch, and Karlie's Kookies selling like hot cakes at Momofuku in New York, it looks like Karlie's fame is likely to help rather than harm her.
