Posing in the rain
Host an event in England and you can consider your chances of rain high, but you’d think Cannes would be a sure-fire bet for glorious rays, rather than the ‘London weather’, as friend-of-the-festival Ines de la Fressange described it, that the Riviera is currently experiencing.
It was raining chats et chiens at Gatsby extravaganza No.642 last night and it’s not the only time an umbrella has been more covetable than a clutch at a premiere or award ceremony as this gallery goes to show. Seriously, it was touch and go as to whether Helen Mirren’s pink dye job was going to end up streaked down the back of her dress at this year’s BAFTAs.
Silver lining: think of all the extra jobs that are created when last minute umbrella minions are drafted in. It’s a tough job to shield so many blow-dries and tuxedos from the rain, but someone’s gotta do it.
