To do List: Tom Odell
From going out to galleries, eating out to entertainment, the in-crowd give us their recommendations
Singer Tom Odell appeared at Burberry's autumn 2013 womenswear show and played live as the models walked their finale. If that isn't making an entrance then what is? With the success afforded by being part of the label's acoustic programme of sponsorship, support and exposure, Odell has become one of the up-and-coming stars of the scene. His debut album, Long Way Down, is out on Monday and available to pre-order now.
Bone Daddies in Soho blows my mind. The food there is incredible, Japanese ramen laden with noodles and chicken and fish and other delicious morsels. I highly recommend the 'cockscratchings' (not what you’re thinking! Fried chicken, very moreish) and the spicy pig bones.
The Bowie exhibition showcases his unique mind. Whether you’re a Bowie fan or not, head to the V&A to discover how much art he absorbed in order to produce the songs he did. Fascinating.
My favourite pub reminds me of my grandmother’s house. The Palm Tree, a lonely old building just off the Regents Canal is a proper East End boozer replete with velvet curtains, weird china plates and a naff carpet. It’s glorious, I love it. And so did Sinatra, who was a regular.
Download Treetop Flyers by The Mountain Movers, right now. I caught a set of theirs accidentally recently in Amsterdam, without a clue of who they were and it was life-changingly brilliant. Americana, a bit like The Band, or Crosby Stills & Nash.
The film, Heartworn Highways, is enough to make a grown man cry. It’s a documentary about traditional country singers in the 1970s, Guy Clarke, Townes Van Zandt, Steve Earle. There’s these scene where Van Zandt sings Waiting Round to Die and it’s ridiculously powerful. Did I actually cry? Um, no comment.
