Maggie Gyllenhaal wears Dior to the premiere of White House Down
Harriet Walker, news editor at Never Underdressed
One of my favourite things about what Raf Simons is doing at Dior right now is taking some of the more traditional (one might say 'stuffy') elements of old school couture, and making them feel modern and entirely new, in terms of aesthetic. This houndstooth ensemble that Maggie has chosen is a great case in point – a pattern normally associated with suiting and daywear becomes knitted eveningwear. just writing that phrase feels wrong, but it works! And so beautifully. But then, Maggie's always had great taste, hasn't she?
Mandi Lennard, brand consultant and founder of Mandi's Basement
Gotta love Maggie, runway-fresh in this coming winter's Christian Dior. Not since Secretary has she put a foot wrong. She slums it when she's with the fam, but that's normal, right? Then boy can she turn it on for a fashion fest. She's my 21st century gal, and following the whole Liz x Rihanna thing yesterday, hey people, this is what you call a role model!

Admit it, harlequin clown collars look pretty ridiculous, but when the ruffles are re-purposed as a peplum, as on Maggie’s dress, it works. The whole dress is a bit like a magic eye in fact – at first, it seems like a confusing mix of patterns, but if you look at it long enough, they all twist together in your mind and look like a clear picture of monochrome chicness.
