The andrenaline junkie aesthetic rules for autumn
It really began back in Spring/Summer 2013, when Holly Fulton’s Californian skater girls ollie-ed into the beauty trends forecast. Ever since then, the adventure-seeking rebel who gets her kicks from extreme sports has slowly but surely become the reference point for a new, empowered image of femininity.
And whether make up artists and hair stylists have been inspired by the triple Salchows and bobsleigh in Sochi, or whether the pursuit of speed and danger merely adds a certain frisson to the backstage story, this season’s shows are currently enjoying a love affair with the winter sportswoman.
So to Gstaad – the imaginary destination for today’s Iceberg show where make up artist, Lucia Pica’s girls had tipped up for a spot of snowboarding and après ski revelry. Fresh from a morning on the black runs, her seemingly natural flush developed low on the cheeks with a stippling of MAC’s new Dandelion Compact Blush.
A dash of horizontal black liner on the eyes mirrored the straight strength of filled-in brows, lending the face a certain aerodynamic quality. A dot of MAC Cream Colour Base in Luna just below the outer corner of the eye replaced the now clichéd cheekbone highlight and instead hinted at the glint of sun bouncing back into the face off the surface of the snow.
Joseph’s girls took their cue from skater boys with a deep side part giving way to grungier, matte-textured movement at the back.
