People scoffed when the term 'metrosexual' was first bandied about in the press some ten years ago. Who'd take any guy seriously that spent more time preening in the bathroom than gasp, a woman!? How outmoded that now seems. Men have marched out of the grooming woodwork and into the shadows of the better-looking version of themselves. Hell, I know men that could talk my skincare knowledge under the table. 

And so, in this age of gender equality (well, we're nearly there, but not quite) it seems a natural progression for us, as women, to begin looking further afield for our beauty inspiration. I am, of course, talking about Jared Leto. Who else? A man at whom, the gnarled finger of ageing hasn't yet pointed. Clearly, he is reverse ageing and looks younger than he did as Jordan Catalano in My So Called Life. Miraculous, really. He has made it possible to have a crush on a guy and want to emulate his look, simultaneously. And while that's confusing on philosophical level, I'll take my beauty inspiration where I can get it, thank you very much.

But it's his hair we keep gazing at, pupils dilated. Glistening with shine, but also replete with just the right amount of salty texture, his chest-length hair is laced with the most organic-looking ombre colour imaginable. You know, the kind of non-ombre ombre thing that feels so right for now that The Cut has investigated forthwith via the expert advice of Leto's hair styling duo (yes, there are two), Aaron Grenia an Chase Kusero. The secret of his texture? Not washing it everyday according to the pair.

Leto showed his hair styling chops at Sunday's Golden Globes too, ably affixing his own chic tuck-under bun that looked both nonchalant and elegant (and very Vera Wang S/S14). No one is more deserving of our first 'hair icon' crown for 2014 - man or woman.
