Will this be the new Céline catwalk hair?

by

As much as we all adore the pomp and grandeur of catwalk hair and the ensuing backstage milieu of bobby pins, piles of hair pieces and the suffocating fog of lacquer, if we're honest, the Céline show is the one that has most in common with how we actually want to wear our hair every day.

Last season it was the neat, low ponytail which elegantly sat on top of those wonderfully original, checkered laundry bag funnel necked coats. The season before that, hair was unfussy, parted in the middle and hung loosely around the shoulders, somewhere between Bobby Gillespie and Ali McGraw. And lest we forget that it was Céline who - by way of countless campaign shots - first introduced us to the roll neck hair tuck, a look we're still partial too today.

But which direction will the hair go on Céline's spring/summer14 catwalk? My money is on a something approaching the cover of Art Review's September edition, above. Utterly beautiful in it's simplicity, it's the epitome of hair tailoring, with added quirk by way of the perfectly sharpened little black pencil.

It's got all the hallmarks of the Céline woman; restrained, spruced, bookish, erudite and more than anything, authentic.

You're welcome, Phoebe.
