Uber-facialist Amanda Lacey went down the Brooke Shields route once upon a time
The legendary facialist, whose product line is as magical as her massage technique, had a thing for Brooke Shields in the 80s
‘This is me with va va voom hair! It was in the mid-80s when I was about 18. I used to wear ‘big’ hair with soft curls in it. I loved the whole Brooke Shields vibe. And of course Madonna, who I was obsessed with. When I was beauty student I used to go and get my hair done on training evenings. They’d cut it or highlight it or whatever. One of my first jobs was at Saatchi & Saatchi and they wanted me to be the first face of the Book Street Girl ad, around this time. I knew Anita Roddick back in the day too and she used me in The Body Shop make-up campaigns.
But my hair hasn’t ever really bothered me, only that it goes frizzy in the rain! I suppose you always want the reverse of what you have. I learnt to perfect a proper blow-dry using a big barrel brush which is how I’ll tend to style it. In the summer and on holidays I just leave it and let it go wavy – it’s good to give your hair a break for a bit.
My hair is coloured by lovely Gary at John Frieda and naturally it’s what he calls ‘dark blonde’. I have caramel honey high lights which suits my complexion. I love Aussie hair care products and am also obsessed with Sachajuan which a beauty editor introduced me to. Their shampoo smells divine. I adore Phyto 7, £13.50, which I just run through the lengths of it.
Anna Wintour has beautiful hair. I think she’s a great benchmark for older women. When she was young it was much darker but now she has a lighter tone. Over the years you need a bit of light on the hair, it’s not good being really, really dark.’
