Perfume queen Lyn Harris once had a full-on punk hair-do
The bespoke perfumer's colourful hair past reflects her love of all things punk
‘I was still at school in Halifax when this picture was taken, right in the middle of the punk era and the new romantic scene that I so loved. I loved The Cure, Echo and the Bunnymen and all the wonderful bands from that time, they really inspired me.
This was my treat before my O levels. I loved dying my hair. My friends had plain black hair with a splash of colour, whereas I preferred all the bright colours at once as you can tell! The hair style itself reminds me of having good times, being young and carefree with my friends, enjoying the music, fashion and the general vibe of what was around me.
I think it is a very English thing: to stand out from the crowd and not care what people think. I loved the shaved part of my haircut best and it was a totally spontaneous decision. Now my hair is going grey, which I don’t really like, but I tend to not really think about it. I wear it long, and I no longer dye it, which actually suits me better.’
