Georgina Goodman on the crop that made her a coverstar
The acclaimed shoe designer on the short, black hairstyle that won her an 80s magazine cover
‘This is a picture from a hair video that Trevor Sorbie did and I ended up as a hair cover girl! I did a few experimental hair styles with Trevor during that time to help pay the rent. I was first approached by someone in Covent Garden who asked if I would have my hair cut for money. YES! As a recently graduated fashion student who had just moved to London it was great fun. I went from blonde to black, long red hair to a bleached crop and then back again. A girl needs to have a hairdresser in her best friend list.
This particular style was very short lived as not long after that I had my hair shaved off and bleached for a hair show in Barcelona. I think I was black and spiky for about a week. It’s not my best ever look; I'm much happier being blonde, though it was fun for a moment.

When I was a teen I was influenced by David Bowie and had red hair in a Ziggy Stardust-esque style. Looking back it didn't suit me at all, but that's not something you consider at 16. My absolute favourite hair type is a natural red head. Charlotte Tilbury has the most amazing natural red hair and works it to the max. I think it’s human nature to want what you haven't got – to me red hair is amazing with that creamy white skin.
The best 'done' hair around at the moment is Paloma Faith. Her hairdresser is so skilled and creates art on the head. If I were to pick an ultimate hair image I would aspire to have it would be Veruschka though.
The best thing I've ever found is Moroccan Oil, £29.95. It’s like a magic potion for the hair. I've definitely found my happy hair space now. I think the days of radical cut and colour are done for me. I'll leave that to my teenage daughter who is in negotiations with me to get her hair dip-dyed…’
