The New York based stylist reflects on a searingly hot shoot when she had to jump in front of the lens

'I was on location in this unbelievably remote, ancient Turkish village for my first location story when I launched Turkish Vogue in 2010. Laura Sciacovelli and I were shooting a denim story together and I needed a portrait to give to Japanese Vogue for a feature they were running of me, so she quickly took this of me.

All the suitcases on the truck behind me are my own which I’d brought full of props for our shoot. The truck belonged to a local shepherd. It was searingly hot but it ended up being a really successful shoot – the images were very dreamy and grainy and the denim worked well against the surreal, rural backdrop. I’ll always remember seeing this mass of turtles migrate on a local beach while we were there; it was a protected nature reserve and such an amazing thing to watch.

"The wonder product I swear by is Terax Rain Drops from Ricky’s in New York. My hair becomes like liquid silk after using it."

My hair is chestnut brown at the moment, the colour I was born with, although it has become darker over the years. I’ve always liked using L’Oreal hair products and when I’m abroad and need to refresh the colour I use L’Oreal Excellence Crème Haircolor in Light Auburn. I get it at Duane Reade or CVS Pharmacy in New York where I live.
