Travel back in time two years and every woman this side of the northern hemisphere was wearing their hair in a top knot. You couldn’t move for the things. One brave glance upwards on a packed 8.36am tube heading towards Oxford Circus and your eyes would be met with a whole sea of satsuma-shaped buns, poking out atop the heads of cramped commuters.

Now though, it’s a whole different story – they’re nowhere to be seen. Done. Almost overnight they died a cold, hard death. And not even the recent Spring 2014 catwalks gave a glimpse of their return. 

And yet, putting runway trends aside for a moment, there’s another place that’s been making us rethink the whole top knot trend: Jessica Hart’s pretty head. The gap-toothed model has been single-handedly keeping the top knot afloat in recent weeks, and we like what she’s doing with it. Her Mrs. Pepperpot style is much bolder than those wishy-washy, half up half down styles of the past. And it’s actually quite flattering too (pulling hair up high exposes cheekbones and draws attention to facial contours, don’t you know). With more and more sightings of Ms. Hart’s top knot in recent weeks, it’s really making us rethink our whole stance on the style.

See below the seven Hart-shaped reasons it might require a revisit. Not to mention the practicalities in this terribly windy weather...

1. It can be high and fluffy and a bit misshaped yet still look decent.

2. It makes for a bloomin' great sunglasses resting spot (yes, even in autumn). 

3. It’s a nonchalantly cool look amongst a sea of same-old, overly glossy blow dries on the red carpet.

4. Unlike a ponytail, it even looks good (if not better) when slightly wonky and sloped to the side. 

5. Fluffy strands of hair and unevenly placed lengths add to the coolness. Really, they do.

6. They’re a much more fun and interesting way to expose a flash of crazy colour. 

7. You can basically go make-up free when sporting such a solid yet carefree look, which keeps things nice and low maintenance.
