So long top knot - here's how to tie the autumn Celine hair knot
For a while now, the only type of knot that’s felt right for hair has been a top of the head, pulled back ‘Croydon facelift’ variety. But top knot, while it’s been a blast, particularly on dirty hair days and when we needed a little lift, I’m sorry to tell you, it’s over.
And that’s because backstage at the Celine show in Paris on Sunday, Guido set about crafting a new type of hair knot that will define the coming season.
'We are backstage at Celine and the hair is well, very Celine-esque, which means that it is simple and minimal,’ explained Guido of his new-fangled hair twist. ‘I used Flex Mess Around 10, which is a new cream-paste from Redken, on the roots to give the hair a bit of hold and texture. I wanted the product to hold the lines created as I raked my fingers through the hair. This technique made the style feel masculine in a way.' Did you get all that?
If you’re still reeling from the news that top knots are over (sorry, we didn’t mean to be brutal), we can at least show you how Guido created his new breed knot, below. Start practicing now and by September, you’ll be doing this sans-mirror on the bus into work, just like you and top knot used to do. We promise.
1. Apply Redken Pillow Proof Blowdry Express Primer to damp hair and comb hair straight back.
2. Next, apply Redken Guts 10 Root-Targeted Volume Spray Foam onto roots and blow-dry with a natural bristle brush.
3. Now smooth on Redken Flex Mess Around 10 Disrupting Cream Paste to roots for texture and grip and gather hair into a low ponytail with fingers.
4. (And here’s the tricky part) Twist ponytail up until it twists over itself and secure with an elastic leaving the ends of the ponytail out.
5. Fix with Redken Forceful 23 Super Strength Hairspray (only available in the US currently) on the ponytail and a spritz of Redken Shine Flash 02 Glistening Mist.
