I think it's fair to say that fine-haired girls have their work cut out for them. Much time is spent in the pursuit of volume, thinking up clever ways to impart texture and generally trying to embellish our modest coiffs to appear like we have more hair than we actually do (I'm in this camp, so I speak from experience).

But it's not all bad news. Fine hair is malleable in the way that a great bunch of thick hair is not. On the whole, it responds well to styling products - think dry shampoo and root-lifting mousse - and it also dries damn fast too, so you're unlikely to be cursed with hair-dryer elbow, like some of your thick-haired compatriots. Silver linings, see?

And, what we may be lacking in folicular diameter, we are more than happy to make up with smart, accessible, even surprising ways to wear our fine hair.
