Forget everything you know about applying your make-up
The beauty world has got a bit discombobulated of late. It’s having an identity crisis. No, really. It’s been throwing up all kinds of things which appear to have rather confused identities - that think outside the beauty box a little; they go beyond the norm to be that extra bit more special and different and fun. Think of it as the evolution of beauty – as time goes on and fiddly, germ-harbouring sponges and unnecessary applicators are a bit redundant, so the design of cosmetics has become far more user-orientated, simpler to grasp and practically fuss-free.
Take Colour Wow Root Powder, £28.50. It looks like an eye shadow palette, complete with dainty brush and eye sized mirror. But it’s not – it’s actually for your hair. Believe it or not, John Frieda is one of the creatives behind it (although that’s a bit hush hush) and honestly, it’s exactly what those uh-oh root moments have been asking for all this time. You know, when your hair constantly looks greasy thanks to unsightly regrowth? Well that’s a thing of the past with this clever compact.
The new L’Oreal Nude Magique Eau de Teint, £9.99, is equally as revolutionary. Now you’ll have to wait until September to get your hands on it but boy, is it worth the wait. It breaks the rules in all the right places and as the name suggests, it’s kind of like a perfume. In the way you apply it, that is. It’s very, very silky and smooth and as make-up artist Mathias van Hooff talked us through its magical nature, he said, ‘You apply it like you would a fragrance. Just place one finger over the top of the bottle, turn it and what is left on your finger is enough for your whole face’. How clever.
My favourite innovative beauty vessel, spotted on style.com’s Instagram properly takes the biscuit. Picture this: See by Chloe’s iconic fragrance, but in nail varnish form. I know – totally unbelievable. The innovation isn’t out until September and the bad news for Brits is that it won’t be available to buy in the UK as sadly it’s only debuting in the States, but weren’t you looking for a reason to book that New York trip?
