New face Sarah proves wet look hair isn’t just for punks
The model faces of tomorrow meet the beauty trends of today, here, every week.
Wet look hair is hard to pull off. Very, very hard. I know because I’ve tried, and actually, the outcome was disastrous. I made the fatal error of using a well-known hair oil brand, thinking it would be the perfect partner, but results were terrible. And the removal process, which I won’t bore you with, was just as bad. But, when done right, it's a great totem of beauty. It’s simple and clean and has seen a rather sophisticated update on the spring/summer 2013 catwalks. It appeared at our favourite Scandi show, Acne, where models’ hair was slicked down into a centre parting worthy of a Haim band member. At Chalayan, hair was pulled back into a tight, slightly Croydon face-lift style ponytail and heavily gelled all over – a look that on Liu Wen looks chic as hell but you know might look utterly ridiculous on you.
Where it looked best, where it really came into its own, was over at Ferregamo. This was part thanks to the genius that is Luigi Murenu but also partly down to the gorgeously fresh update it was given; pulled into a deep side-parting, lightly waxed down and flowing at the back. And it’s almost as though Shu Uemura were sitting on the show's front row when it had the light bulb moment to create Touch of Gloss. It couldn’t be more suited. It's light, waxy formula gives a sculpted, high gloss finish that is made for this look. The second thing that was pretty much made for this look was the hair of Sarah, one of the chirpy new faces at Select who's creamy, blonde lengths and darker roots make a fine base for such a for such a punk-chic look.
Sarah looked cool. Cool like a… Alabama Whirley kind of cool. But feminine too. Her hair had a subtle, reflective sheen to it while looking the loose lengths completed the look. And best of all, Touch of Gloss smells of roses – that’ll be the rose sakura essence- and it’s truly a fool-proof product that anyone could use at home. Tonight, I’ll be putting that first disaster behind me and welcoming the wet look into my life once more. Here’s hoping it looks as good as Sarah’s.
