The dawn of a new era for Miley and Marc?
Marc Jacobs, the man who cast Winona Ryder as his model right after she went on the rob for his designs, or selected Victoria Beckham to be photographed emerging from his shop's bag before she had been fully accepted into the fashion elite, is not shy of causing a little controversy with his campaigns. It might come as little surprise then, to see twerker-of-2013, Miley Cyrus, as his eponymous label's face for spring 2014.
In a departure from Marc's usual campaign partnership with Juergen Teller, the new images of the chatter-magnet singer were shot by David Sims, while the styling comes courtesy of long-time partner in crime, Katie Grand.
Cyrus has shown a recent affiliation with the brand, wearing a gold Marc Jacobs dress to perform on The X Factor and a green sequin slip by the designer late last year, as well as showing him some love with a typical tongue-out shot on Instagram, which could have been hints that their relationship was about to become official.
Following a year of comment about how much flesh the former teen-star should show on any given day, it's refreshing to see Miley looking natural and neither contrarily trussed up in head to toe hemlines, nor as defiantly semi-nude as she was in ~those Terry Richardson shots.
These brooding new images, perhaps, mark the dawn of an interesting new era for Miley Cyrus, and Marc Jacobs, who recently parted company with Louis Vuitton after 17 years at its helm, alike. Will 2014 be the year we start to consider Miley's feminist credentials after all, and will we see Marc draw a line under some of his most recognisable signatures?
