Here's what your next Prada purchase will look like

Anyone familiar with Miuccia Prada's way of thinking will know that the menswear show she held in Milan over the weekend would have offered something of a window into her mind for next season's womenswear collection, set to be shown in the same venue this September.

For the past few seasons now, she has used the men's show as an opportunity to present her women's pre-collections, while also retaining elements of the complex, metaphorical staging and sets for subsequent shows too. Her autumn 2014 show in February was presented as 'Act II', after the men's 'Act I' in January. So we can assume we'll see something of the swimming pool her models marched around yesterday when we go there in a few months' time.

And the synergies between the two realms are becoming ever more obvious, from similarity of cut to a shadowing of theme and concept. The women's looks Prada showed yesterday were redolent of her previous collection, inspired by 1930s German cinema, but they also borrowed from the menswear they stood beside. As such, the panelling and broad shouldered, boxy styles of autumn were mixed in with trompe l'oeuil denim, 70s leather and knitwear and cross-hatched laundry bag check separates.

Consider these pieces crumbs on the detective trail that is a full-blown Prada obsession (we all have one). Be excited by them and use them to work out what might be coming next.

As we all know well enough, you probably won't guess right.
