Those Dior trainers are now available to buy
For those of you still struggling to jettison the heels and come to terms with your New Balance and your Nike IDs, there's a new trainer in town – one that might just scoop the top spot for the snazziest sneaker around.
There were intakes of breath at the last round of couture shows in January when Dior's Raf Simons presented his ethereally feminine collection accompanied by trainers. And not just trainers but a hybrid ballerina-cum-Skechers-inspired slip-on. It was further proof of the contemporising of the discipline, of the prioritising of comfort and ease, and the debunking of formal codes. And it showed just how modern Simons is prepared to be to make a success of his time at the label.
They were acclaimed, not only for the ingenuity of their design and the sense of rebellion, but for the slip-on style's innate prettiness, made from a lightweight and bright coloured mesh upper, decorated and criss-crossed with sparkling jewels and sequins.
And now they're available to buy now at London's Dover Street Market, until Thursday, and in all Dior boutiques from the beginning of July. We predict they'll be the street style hit of the couture shows in Paris next month. At £740, realistically they're not for running in, but they're sure to add a spring to your step.
