Last night's looks: partying for art's sake

Undeterred by all the many other fashionable goings-on in the week, the well-heeled crowd were still at large on the New York social scene last night, with the Whitney gallery's annual party and the city's spring ballet gala. Meanwhile, designer Narciso Rodriguez unveiled a sustainable bottletop collection of bags in collaboration with Pepsi, to which his many fabulous friends came.

Wednesday was a big day for the New York fashion crowd, kicking off with the Dior Cruise show (which counted Rihanna among its guests).

As afternoon turned into evening, there were several major events to attend: the Rainforest Alliance Gala, which attracted Gisele Bundchen in a playful mood; the Delete Blood Cancer Gala (where Georgia May Jagger, Coco Rocha and Doutzen Kroes were spotted); a party to celebrate Jerry Bruckheimer's new book (attended by Claire Danes); and a Burberry dinner, with the guestlist including Naomi Campbell and Suki Waterhouse. Here in London, Lily Allen attempted to fly the flag for the British party scene by heading down to the ever-popular Firehouse.

The Met gala kicked off the party week in New York on Monday with a massive bang, but that didn't stop Blake Lively and Marion Cotillard coming back out on Tuesday with a premiere of The Immigrant for Marion and the Gucci Chime for Change launch at Macy's for Blake.

Over in LA, Hilary Duff looked like she might be angling for a place among the style set when she attended an ASPCA event in an uncharacteristically 'fashion' combo of wide-leg trousers and dark lipstick.
