Technically they're FAGs (fiancée and girlfriends) rather than traditional WAGs, but the other halves of the One Direction boys were out in force for the premiere of the band's documentary film This is Us in London last night. Our first reaction was to bundle them up in a paramedic’s blanket and hail a helicopter, disaster zone rescuee style.

We all know about the death threat tweets that GQ received from the band's fans. So we fully understand the perilous wrath of a Directioner scorned. These brave girls are in a tricky situation being on the arms of some of the most fawned over lads in pop. So let's meet them, shall we, and all be friends..? *nods hopefully*

Sophia Smith, 22, new girlfriend of Liam, looked utterly petrified. Friends for years, they met at college in Wolverhampton, so she can hardly be accused of bounty-hunting. Leaked Instagram pictures, which she has since fast been deleting, reveal that she likes drinking cocktails in cutaway swimsuits, and favours white jeans, shiny earrings, hair extensions and long manicures.

News of their union only broke a few days ago and she’s already had to protest to Twitter haters that she’s not after Liam's fame or money. Describing herself as ‘just a normal British girl who enjoys a lovely cup of tea,’ she’s already received messages such as ‘I hate her I wish she just died,’ ‘Back off you b****’ and ‘she looks disgusting, like eww. #sorrynotsorry.’ 

We’re reminded of the territorial response to Linda McCartney when she bagged Paul. 

Meanwhile, Eleanor Calder looked terrified in Topshop. Having been with Louis for two years, the 21 year-old Manchester politics & sociology student is, in our opinion, the best dressed of the girlfriends, with a fondness for Peter Pan collars, slouchy knits, monochrome, and loafers plus macs that’s a little Chung-esque. A tumblr site is devoted to her supposed style copycatting.

She never talks about Louis for fear of inciting her 2.8 million followers on Twitter, who appear to be sedated now, but in the past have bombarded her with pictures of Louis with his ex, Hannah, starting a #Louannah anti-Eleanor trend. 

She looks, and acts, a lot like Jessica Michibata, Jensen Button’s Japanese model girlfriend, who never responds to mud slingshots and always looks fabulous. Seems the easiest way to us.

Perrie Edwards, singer of Little Mix was the least rattled, despite having received death threats in the past. She's now Yoko Ono whatevs about the whole circus. Her style is Harajuku girl meets Blanche DuBois. Rainbow knits and lavender rinse, vintage wool meets crop top, and maxi skirt with statement necklace. The 20 year-old has clearly decided to smile through the acid-rain of abuse, particularly now her and Zayn are engaged, having dated on and off for 18 months.

Good for her. Maybe she can be coach poor Sophia through the storm.
